THE ENSHRINEMENT OF THE BUDDHA’S SACRED RELICS AT YEN TU MARKS HISTORIC MILESTONE
With solemn and meticulous preparation, the enshrinement of the Buddha’s sacred relics at the revered Yen Tu Mountain has left a profound impression on citizens, Buddhist followers, and visitors alike — reaffirming Quang Ninh’s rising stature on the map of cultural and spiritual tourism in Vietnam and across the region.
Over a period of four days (May 25–28), Quang Ninh Province proudly welcomed a landmark spiritual event: for the first time, the sacred relics of the Buddha — a National Treasure of India — were officially escorted and enshrined at the Yen Tu Historical and Scenic Site, a cradle of Vietnamese Zen Buddhism. The event drew more than one million devotees and visitors, both domestic and international, to this spiritual sanctuary.

The enshrinement of the Buddha’s relics at Yen Tu is not only a significant spiritual event for Buddhist followers, but also a profound cultural milestone. It offers a precious opportunity to honor and spread the enduring values of the Truc Lam Zen School, a uniquely Vietnamese Buddhist tradition founded by King Tran Nhan Tong.
This event reaffirms Yen Tu’s position as one of Vietnam’s foremost spiritual and cultural centers, and simultaneously serves as a catalyst for the sustainable development of Quang Ninh’s tourism industry — one that is deeply rooted in heritage preservation, cultural reverence, and spiritual authenticity.
As a locality rich in Buddhist heritage and sacred sites, Quang Ninh possesses extensive experience in organizing large-scale spiritual events. The escorting and enshrinement of the relics were treated with utmost reverence and identified as a national-scale event, attracting vast crowds of monks, nuns, laypeople, and pilgrims from all corners of the world.
The Provincial People’s Committee of Quảng Ninh proactively directed a coordinated effort, involving the Department of Health, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Uong Bi City, in close partnership with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Quang Ninh. Multisectoral task forces were established to oversee on-site operations, ensure timely responses to any emerging issues, and maintain order and safety throughout the event. Hundreds of volunteers were mobilized to guide and assist pilgrims, while comprehensive crowd control and fire safety protocols were deployed with professionalism and precision.
